Position Description & Duties
Boise State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Honors College Director to build on the interdisciplinary, research, and service orientation of the program and provide leadership for innovations to enhance the educational experiences of Honors students.  The Honors College serves as a model for the campus in experimenting with leading edge approaches to teaching, learning, and research with undergraduates.

The Director and his/her staff play a crucial role in cultivating student talents and mentoring students to expand experiences and knowledge. The Director is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for all aspects of the Honors College program inclusive of developing and implementing the curriculum and course offerings; recruiting and retaining Honors students; advising and mentoring programs for Honors; cultivating undergraduate research and internship opportunities; garnering faculty and financial support for the programs; and administering the budget, program assessment, and personnel.

The director working collaboratively will:

  • provide strategic vision and leadership for the Honors College;
  • design an interdisciplinary, enriched curriculum for the College that facilitates progressive intellectual development of Honors students, inclusive of study abroad opportunities;
  • facilitate undergraduate research, international, and/or service opportunities for Honors students;
  • assist with recruitment and marketing of the Honors College;
  • assess the desired learning outcomes associated with Honors College participation;
  • cultivate and solicit financial resources to support the Honors College.

The Director of the Honors College will work closely with deans, department chairs, division of research, service learning, study abroad, undergraduate scholarships and awards, Residential Colleges and various committees to create innovative, high quality academic/educational experiences.  The position reports to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and supervises a full-time activities coordinator and administrative assistant.

Qualification Requirements

  • PhD or terminal degree for discipline/profession
  • At least 5 years demonstrated effectiveness in university level teaching and learning
  • At least 3 years university administrative experience
  • Solid and sustained record of professional contributions within a candidate’s discipline
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in enhancing undergraduate experiences and learning
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and manage department, college, campus level and/or community-based initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful leadership role in an Honors program or other programs that enhance academic excellence and undergraduate research. 

Salary and benefits:  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.  This position is a full-time, 12-month administrative position.  Anticipated start date is July 1, 2010.
