Best Honors Administrative Practices (BHAP) - closes May 13
In light of this year’s conference theme Centering Community, we invite proposals for one of NCHC’s oldest signature programs, Best Honors Administrative Practices – BHAP. BHAP was reimagined at NCHC21 in Orlando into a series of TED Talk-like presentations. Continuing that format for NCHC22 in Dallas, we seek presenters and topics that would engage the audience on specific strategies for generating community in an honors program, or larger philosophical arguments for how to conceptualize what community means within the honors context. These 10-minute presentations will be conducted live in Dallas, with recordings circulated following the conference. The audience will have the opportunity to engage with speakers after the presentations to ask questions and continue the conversation. We invite individuals to propose examples, experiments, innovative ideas, or research that highlight the future of honors administrative practices for an engaged community. To propose a BHAP presentation, please submit a 300-word or less abstract. The abstract should describe what you plan to present and how it fits the 2022 BHAP theme of theory and practice of community in honors. Individuals selected to present as part of the BHAP series will be invited to a planning and training session in order to help prepare speakers for the format and recording. Proposal submissions will close Friday, May 13. Notifications of acceptance will be mid-June 2022. Please reach out to the NCHC Office at nchc@unl.edu or 402-472-9150 for any questions. Thank you, Thomas Spencer and Niels Christensen Submit Your BHAP Proposal Here |
Students in Honors (SIH) - closes May 13
Dear Members,
NCHC is once again offering a Student Consultant’s Center at the Annual Conference, as a part of the Students in Honors (SIH) track. A popular conference event, students will meet with honors faculty 1-on-1 to get feedback on a resume, CV, personal statement, elevator pitch (introduction) or how to talk about their honors journey with others.
These sessions will take place at NCHC22 during the Students in Honors (SIH) sessions on Saturday. The more volunteers we get to staff a 1-hour session, the better we can serve the students who attend our event in Dallas. Can you contribute your expertise for an hour during NCHC22?
Please complete the submission form below with your preferred area(s) to consult in. Applications will close Friday, May 13, and we will follow up with you over the summer with further details. Thank you for your participation!

Idea Exchange - closes March 31
The Idea Exchange is a dynamic opportunity for NCHC conference attendees to gather new ideas and information about honors practices and opportunities in an energetic, fast-moving environment.
Presenters will highlight their unique practices and opportunities at idea stations positioned in thematic clusters throughout a large room. NCHC will provide one table per idea station, but other equipment (e.g., LCD projectors, easels, power strips) will NOT be available.

Preference will be given to Idea Exchange proposals that share new, creative, and/or innovative ideas (as opposed to best practices which are shared in other formats at the conference); include evidence of assessment / measures of success; and have a clear fit with this session environment. Please include this information as part of the conference abstract in the proposal.

Student Interdisciplinary Research Panels (SIRP) - closes March 31
Student Interdisciplinary Research Panels give students engaged in high-level research opportunities to present papers in a discussion format that differs markedly from student poster sessions. Paper submissions may focus on any academic discipline and will be reviewed and grouped into interdisciplinary panels of 3-4 papers by a selection committee. No pre-arranged panels will be accepted. There are no specific research and/or length requirements. Students have 15 minutes to present their papers and will be expected to discuss their research, rather than read their work. In this juried competition, only the best papers will be selected. Papers should be written in language suitable for an academic audience representing a variety of disciplines. Students should also consider Poster Sessions and other venues for conference participation. In order to be considered for a panel, a student must submit the following:
- Student Interdisciplinary Research Panel proposal
- A 50-word description of the project for the conference program
- A 300-word abstract for review
- An electronic copy of the completed paper.
(Submissions for SIRP will be open March 1 - 31, 2022 along with NCHC's Signature Programming)
Submit your SIRP proposal
Proposals for this signature program must be submitted online no later than March 31, 2022, 11:59 PM CST. Proposals received after 11:59 PM CST will not be accepted or reviewed.
The honors director or dean of students selected to participate in SIRP sessions must certify that the student will attend the NCHC conference upon notification of acceptance. This is especially important in SIRP sessions because each panel is designed around the relationship among the three papers. The above verification will take place following the close of proposals. Honors directors will be provided with the names of their students who have submitted.
LCD projectors are NOT available for this session type.
