Which workers are on strike?
Hotel workers, Unite Here Local 26. This includes housekeepers, cooks, bartenders, bellmen, dishwashers and food and beverage servers, among others. Find more information about Local 26 here.

How will the strike affect me?
We do not expect any meaningful disruption to the overall conference experience. Between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm, you may observe occasional picket lines on public space only in front of hotels affected by the strike. You can expect these demonstrations to be loud, but law enforcement and hotel security are present. Affected hotels may have reduced hours or menus in food and beverage outlets. See hotel-specific details below, and we will update this page as new information becomes available. Services and hours are being added as staffing increases.

What about security in and around picket lines?
While the picketing has been orderly and cooperative, as a precaution, Boston Police Department officers are stationed at each affected property during striking hours, in addition to hotel security. Picketing may take place only between hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm and only on city property (i.e., sidewalks) and requires a permit. At no time do demonstrations take place inside the hotels. S

Will access to hotels on strike be restricted?
Hotel security may require guest room keys or conference badges for entry. Be sure to have these available if you are staying in, have business in, or wish to visit one of the affected hotels. NCHC requires conference badges be worn at all times during attendance at conference events. Please be sure you have your attendee badge with you if you leave the Sheraton hotel property. Upon your first arrival, please inform security that you are checking in for the NCHC conference to pick up your attendee badge and materials, and you will be allowed entry.

Should I cancel my hotel reservation?
We do not advise switching hotel properties at this time. If you book elsewhere in the city, please make sure to cancel your existing hotel reservation to avoid forfeiture of one night’s room and tax.

Why didn’t NCHC move to a hotel not affected by the work stoppage?
There were no other hotels in the city with the meeting space of the Sheraton available at this point in time.

Could NCHC have postponed the Annual Conference until the strike is over?
It is impossible to predict when the parties will reach agreement. NCHC is bound by contract for specific dates to hold our meeting. It would also be unreasonable to expect 2,000+ attendees to incur the expense of rebooking flights and rearranging schedules.
