Honors Publications Contest

2024 Honors Publications Contest open February 1 - June 30

For years, NCHC has proudly hosted an Honors Newsletter Competition. As of 2024, NCHC is proud to host an annual Honors Publications Contest. Any current member of NCHC is invited to participate if your honors program or college has its own publication. Valid submissions include newsletters, magazines, or journals that are produced in-print, electronically, or both. Both student-run publications and faculty/administrator/student-run publications are eligible.

Contest Eligibility

  • Any active member of NCHC with a publication that fits into one of the categories is eligible to submit.
  • All publications in the "student published" categories may be re-submitted for the contest every year.
  • Winners in the "faculty/administrator/student" categories are ineligible for the contest the year immediately following their award.

Contest Categories and Divisions

Please see below for definitions of publication categories:

Newsletters: Publications that celebrate news in your honors program/college are eligible. News “bites” may include but are not limited to activities in honors, profiles of people in honors, updates, events, awards, community happenings, and more.

Magazines: Publications that are composed of more than 50% of “feature-length” work, whether fiction or nonfiction, whether related to honors news or not. Can also include student artwork, photography, or essays that present student research.

Journals: Publications that are comprised of student research articles but may also include student artwork/photography/etc.

The Publications Contest has two divisions: electronically published and print published. Within each division there are two categories: student published and faculty/administrator/student published.

Entering the Contest

To be eligible for the contest, you must enter two consecutive publications published by your honors program or college within the 12-month period ending on June 30, 2024 (for annual publications, submit your most recent consecutive issues). Please note: websites are not eligible for this contest.

For the Electronically Published Division:

Complete the form below, at the end of which you can upload pdfs of and/or provide live hyperlinks to the newsletters you wish to enter, and click the submit tab. A copy of your submission (for your records) will automatically be emailed to you and, if different, to the address you provided for Program Director.

For the Print Division:

In previous years, entries in the Print Division required that hard copies be mailed to NCHC. In order to reduce our carbon footprint, we will no longer judge hard copies. Please complete the form below, and attach PDFs of your publications. A copy of your submission will automatically be emailed to you and, if different, to the address you provided for Program Director.

Entries for both divisions must accompany a completed submission form to be considered. If you (or your program director) have not received your copy of this form, try submitting it again. If a second attempt fails, contact NCHC at hello@nchchonors.org for help. Please do not submit work under both divisions (electronic and print) unless you truly have two distinct enterprises.

Judging & Awards

Work will be judged and up to three awards will be given in each publication category. However, if the field of competition is insufficient, not all categories may be recognized in a competition year.

Winning publications will be recognized at the Annual Conference awards ceremony.
