NCHC Innovation for Tomorrow Award

NCHC is excited to announce the opportunity for innovators and difference makers to apply for up to $1,000 and be recognized at the 2017 NCHC Annual Conference in Atlanta.

Patrick Lavilla, LaGuardia Community College, demos his mobile app at #NCHC16 in Seattle.

ThinkGeek presented NCHC with a gift of $5,000 to encourage ideas that impact change in the world, whether for specific communities, demographics or applications. Our first winner was selected in 2016, and featured his project at the Idea Exchange in Seattle at the 2016 Annual Conference. There are more opportunities to win in 2017!

The challenge is as limitless as your imagination. Have you created a gadget, an app, a widget or a process that made something traditional – well, less traditional? More efficient? Simpler? Cooler? Has your creation sparked a movement that makes you feel like a superhero?

Now, for the details:

  1. Submit a one page essay: it must include the description of your innovation, how it changed your world (big or small), and what role technology played in designing and implementing the innovation. Innovation and creativity are a must—please submit only original, non-trademarked working concepts from your own gray matter.
  2. Create a 2-3 minute video, highlighting your innovation at work. Testimonials, visuals, special effects are all welcome. Submit with your essay.
  3. Submit a statement from your honors director that provides confirmation that you are enrolled at your honors college.
  4. DEADLINE: March 31, 2017. If you have done something already, awesome! But if you have a burning idea and want to develop it, there’s still time! There’s no better motivation than a deadline with cash on the line!

Winners of this round will be notified in April and recognized at the 2017 NCHC Annual Conference in Atlanta. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top submission: $500 to you and $500 to your honors college, as well as an opportunity to present or demo your innovation on the national stage!

Good luck, and happy geeking!
