Additional Sessions Available

During registration, you may select from the following additional sessions. Please note any sessions requiring additional fees will be noted below and added to your registration invoice.

Beginning in Honors
Wednesday, November 8  |  12:00 pm

Beginning in Honors is a workshop designed for new honors directors and deans or those leading or creating new honors programs and colleges. This workshop begins  in a large group, and then breaks out to focus upon specific institutional types -- large universities; medium-sized institutions; small public, private, and faith-based colleges; and two-year institutions.

No additional fee  |  Open to Professional Attendees

Pre-Conference Workshop: International Education 101
Wednesday, November 8  |  2:00 pm

International study stands as a proven high impact practice. Running sustained short term experiences for groups of students can help institutionalize international experiences within honors. This pre-conference three hour workshop is designed to provide participants with collaborative time to explore issues in launching and sustaining international programming within the honors experience. We focus on two critical components of international study which are far too often overlooked: a) pre-program planning and b) post-program opportunities for participants in international study to "keep the program alive" by sharing their experiences and applying lessons learned within the context of the campus and community.

$50 Session Fee  |  Limited to 24 participants

Partners in the Parks Excursion
Thursday, November 9  |  9:45 am

Come and see where history was made (literally!). From the NPS: "In a growing Chicago neighborhood, diverse people and stories intertwined. All were seeking opportunity. Some succeeded. Others were limited—by race, gender, or economic status. Their stories came together in Pullman, a planned industrial community famed for its urban design and architecture."

Limited to 30 participants  |  Additional Fees: $6 for Metra Train Day Pass. Lunch stop at Whole Foods, on your own.

City As Text™ Excursions
Thursday, November 9  |  11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Kick off #NCHC23 by exploring the streets of Chicago!  An NCHC signature event for decades, City As Text™ (CAT) positions honors students, staff, and faculty as explorers in the city.  Participants will seek to more deeply understand the conference theme, ‘Revolutionary Honors,’ through conversations and observations in Chicago neighborhoods, public spaces, and cultural landmarks. The CAT experience includes an opening session, city exploration, breakouts for writing and observations, and a group closing session.

No additional fee  |  Indicate your interest in being a CAT explorer by registering for the event on this form. When you arrive at the event, you will select your individual site.
