History

The National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) has been a leader in honors education since its founding in 1965, supporting programs across the U.S. and beyond. With roots tracing back to early 20th-century models like Frank Aydelotte’s Oxford-inspired tutorials, NCHC has continuously evolved. Major milestones include the launch of innovative programs like City as Text™ in 1976, the establishment of its national office in 2005, and the introduction of key publications that shaped honors education. Today, NCHC is a hub for collaboration, professional development, and innovative teaching strategies in the honors community.
