Program Overview
Explore the stunning landscapes of Acadia National Park through this immersive program, combining hands-on ecological service with backcountry adventure. Participants will engage in impactful projects while hiking rugged trail and camping under
the stars. With breathtaking views of the Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast, this physically challenging experience is paired with the highest rocky headlands along the Atlantic coastline of the United States, an abundance of habitats
and rich cultural heritage. Limited to (unsure) students due to wilderness regulations, this program offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and contribute to preserving this iconic national park.

Program Size: 8-10 Students
NCHC Member Price: $950 (does not include airfare); Non-Member Price: $1900 (does not include airfare)

Karen Gergley
Karen Gergely is a socially engaged artist and educator from West Virginia. She is an Associate Professor of Art at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, where she teaches in the Honors Program and leads the Art and Design departments. Her work fosters community through creative expression. An avid adventurer, Gergely enjoys long-distance hiking and bike-packing. Learn more at karengergely.com.
Dan Platt
Dan Platt is an English teacher and Phi Theta Kappa advisor at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa. He completed a PhD in English with a concentration in environmental literature, along with a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management, at the University of Oregon. His past “outdoor education” experiences include organizing river cleanups with New Jersey Community Water Watch and building hiking trails along the Tahoe Rim Trail with Nevada Conservation Corps.
