Join us in the heart of the Southwest for our Place as Text Faculty Institute in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico--a multicultural nexus where traditions converge, histories overlap, and tales of resistance, adaptation, and unity are hidden in plain sight. We will sift through the layers of cultural landscape and challenge the "tricultural myth" that oversimplifies the region's diversity. In Old Town and along Route 66, in downtown and various neighborhoods like the Sawmill District, Barelas, Raynolds Addition, and Nob Hill, we will dig up dialogues, critiques, and celebrations of the multicultural city. Taking the Rail Runner to Santa Fe, we will have the chance to compare these observations and insights to the narratives and realities in the capital city. The Albuquerque and Santa Fe Faculty Institute offers a chance to redefine your understanding of place and to bring these insights into your teaching, co-curricular planning, and beyond. Participants will learn how to design their own integrative lab/seminar to foster integrative inquiry within a cluster of disparate courses, Place as Text/City as Text™ pedagogy invites students, faculty and staff to engage in a sequence of exploratory assignments that combine site-specific explorations with group discussions and intentional reflection prompts. Place as Text/City as Text™ can be used in a variety of contexts including on college campuses during orientation programs, in natural landscapes such as national parks, and in towns/cities as part of academic courses, co-curricular planning, and study away. This institute provides profession development to NCHC participants and expands the visibility and value of NCHC.
