About the Institute

Participants will engage in direct observation, mapping exercises, writing assignments, interviews and discussions. The Institute will culminate with a workshop on adaptations of City As Text™ methodology to curricular and co-curricular programming. We will explore together ways to incorporate experiential learning, discursive teaching, and recursive writing in community-based learning courses involving students producing civically engaged scholarship. The institute will coincide with the 42nd Annual San Juan Bautista Hispanic Festival in downtown Lancaster City. During this institute the Anabaptism at Five Hundred 1525-2025 international academic conference on the 500th anniversary of Anabaptism (the foundation of Pennsylvania German culture) will be held at the Galen Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies on the campus of Elizabethtown College whose Honors Program sponsored by the Hershey Company is hosting this institute.
