Uncovering San Diego: Introduction to Place as Text

This NCHC Introduction to Place as Text program is intended for faculty and staff members who are new to place-based pedagogy. Participants will engage in intentional explorations to experience Place as Text as their students do, with all of the excitement and challenges that come with it. They will be introduced to principles of site-based experiential learning as they explore the city’s diverse neighborhoods, landmarks, and public spaces.

The program will conclude with a workshop in which participants will consider applications on their home campuses. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to hear detailed application and implementation plans developed by City as Text® Master Class participants (simultaneously running at the same time as the Introduction to Place as Text program).

Participants who attend the San Diego NCHC National Conference may choose to participate in facilitating the City as Text® Signature Event at the conference.
