Critical Crossroads: Addressing the Challenges of Prior Credit and Honors
Honors colleges and programs across the country are grappling with the increased prevalence of dual, AP, IB, Cambridge, and other forms of prior college credit, a trend that presents both unique opportunities and challenges for all parties. This roundtable
discussion examines the critical issues that Honors is facing as it strives to keep up with the various impacts that prior college credit is having on its students and its colleges/programs. Presenters will discuss the impact of prior college
credit on student readiness, faculty workload, and resource allocation, as well as provide engaging topics for small group discussions. Through these dialogues, the presenters intend to illuminate the complexity of incorporating an ever-growing
prior credit system into the present and future of Honors, as well as find potential solutions and adaptations that Honors colleges and programs can make to maintain and heighten their distinct academic value for all students.
Facilitators:
- Brian Newsome, Georgia College and State University, Dean of the John E. Sallstrom Honors College
- Angela Mead, The Honors College at Appalachian State University, Director of Advising and Student Services
-
Madison Stump-Smith, Bowling Green State University
-
Amy Williams, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Assistant Director
