Committee Leader Resources

“Leadership is the art of giving people a platform for spreading ideas that work." -Seth Godin

Committee work is vital to the success of NCHC - thank you for investing your time, talents, and resources into making the honors community the best it can be!

Documents and Rosters

NCHC has implemented ShareFile as our filesharing solution for all NCHC information. This effort enables continuity of information, accessibility, and enhanced support from NCHC Headquarters as committee leadership rotates.

As a committee leader, you'll receive an email inviting you to create a Sharefile login, and applicable folders will be associated with your account. Logging into Sharefile will provide you a structure to access rosters, view past materials, and share documents among your committee. If you maintain a seperate Google Drive for your committee, we encourage you to transfer materials into Sharefile for security and increased access.

For issues with permissions or access to specific folders within the ShareFile structure, please reach out to Angie Birkett, NCHC Office Manager.

For issues with uploading/downloading files, sharing files, or other system features, you can find more information at the ShareFile Support site linked below.

Committee leaders have access to past board meeting digests, annual business meeting minutes and more on the NCHC Governing Documents page.

Please see section 7 of the NCHC Committee Handbook for complete guidelines on committee membership.

Annually, general committee member nominations are considered post-conference, and appointed before December 31 for terms to begin January 1. Committees, at their own discretion, may choose to allow members to enroll at any time throughout the academic year to complement the nomination process. If you wish to accept committee enrollment year-round, please notify hello@nchchonors.org for roster accuracy.

An up-to-date roster is available in your committee's ShareFile folder.

Budget and Reporting

All current committee leaders should receive a monthly dashboard email (Intact) that details their committee budget. If you have questions or are not receiving this email, please contact NCHC's Headquarters Office for assistance.

If you have questions as you build your committee budget, NCHC Headquarters staff and Finance committee leadership are available to provide assistance. Please reach out to hello@nchchonors.org with questions or issues. Submission forms are built to save and return if necessary; be sure to select "Save and Continue Later" in the upper right corner to receive a unique link for completion sent to your inbox. A list of sample questions is provided to aid in collecting your submission content.

Programming

All committees are encouraged to share ideas and content through member programming. Compensation is provided to programming facilitators according to the NCHC Facilitator & Compensation policy.

Committee-sponsored programming can take the form of in-person institutes, online trainings and workshops, or more informal virtual roundtable discussions. Programs can also be fee-based or free to attend. A call for programming commitments will take place in mid-June for the following year, to collect interest and basic details for upcoming events. Once you indicate interest, the Programming Committee will work with you to develop your programming budget and details.

NCHC also recognizes the need for just-in-time programming that addresses current issues or topics and necessitates a shorter processing time. Committees are encouraged to bring suggestions for these “hot topic” programs to the Programming Committee as they arise.

You don't have to go it alone! Programming committee leaders are available to assist with program concepts and budgeting. Tyrra Edwards, NCHC's Director of Conference and Events, is also available to help in structuring your event logistics and budget.

Headquarters Support

Hello!

As Director of Volunteer Stewardship, I want to thank you for your commitment to NCHC. The time, expertise, and resources you dedicate to serving an NCHC committee and ensuring its progress are what drive NCHC forward and create the community our members hold dear.

My role is to ultimately serve as an empowerment engine and facilitator of vision – assisting you as a committee leader to engage your committee members in mission-driven initiatives, and ensuring you have the support and resources you need to succeed in the projects you want to achieve. I’m here to help you navigate committee continuity, strategize plans and projects that push NCHC’s vision forward, and neutralize barriers to the work that you do. My goal is to help you thrive – so don’t hesitate to book time on my calendar to discuss a new idea, or ask for assistance through committee leadership and membership changes. I look forward to taking part in your committee meetings, and working closely with you to provide members with both a place to connect, and tools to succeed.

Cheers to the future!

Amber Klaus
NCHC Director of Volunteer Stewardship

We are ready to begin testing the functionality of a Community Forum (similar to a Listserv) solution with a small group of membership. If you are willing to serve as a volunteer of this test, please e-mail hello@nchchonors.org and we will add you to the testing environment.

NCHC’s membership software, YourMembership (YM), provides community space for each committee and special interest group. This space can be use to communicate and share with your members, as each committee member will be added to the community at the start of each year. The community offers a one-stop solution to access all of your committee’s activities - create discussion threads, share links, add meetings and events to a committee calendar, email members directly, and interact with other community members using the directory and messaging capabilities. NCHC HQ can help you create additional custom pages with content that is available to only committee members, or to the entire community (this includes online committee voting). If you have any additional questions or need assistance with customizing your community, please send an email to hello@nchchonors.org.

Design Tools
Should a committee desire to manage their own marketing collateral, a Canva Pro license can be administered to one designated member within each committee at the direction of the NCHC Marketing Manager. All materials must be created within your designated Canva Pro license issued by NCHC. The Canva Pro license contains color, font, typography, iconography, and logo rustications to align with NCHC branding standards. When the design work is finalized, the NCHC Marketing Manager will be notified that a piece of collateral is ready for review and approval. To request Canva Pro access, please contact Brittney Lippincott, Marketing Manager.

NCHC uses Zoom, a secure software-based online meeting platform, licensed through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for video conferencing and webinars. This service allows you to meet virtually, share and review documents in real time and can record the meeting for those not able to attend.

A new meetings solution is also under development that will allow for virtual and hybrid events. More information on opportunities and usage will be coming soon!
