NCHC25 - Arts and Creativity Workshops

Arts and Creativity Workshops

We’re excited to showcase the Arts & Creativity Track at this fall’s NCHC Annual Conference in San Diego—a dynamic space for honors students and professionals to explore performance, expression, and interdisciplinary storytelling.

Workshops Requiring Applications

Film

This immersive workshop provides students the chance to create, reflect, and engage with peers and faculty. The format mirrors the scientific poster model—emphasizing a journey from idea to execution, with time for live discussion and feedback at the conference.

Open Call Workshops

Theater

Theater is a timeless medium for exploring identity, culture, and the complexities of the human experience. In this interactive and reflective workshop, students will dive into the expressive world of performance—no previous acting experience required!

Poetry

Poetry opens space for vulnerability, power, and discovery. In this generative, supportive workshop, students will explore how poetry can help us process, connect, and respond to the world around us. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or a curious beginner, you’ll leave with fresh drafts, new tools, and a deeper appreciation for poetry’s role in public and personal life.

Improv

The Improv Workshop invites students to build confidence, connect with others, and explore the power of spontaneous creativity—all through the lens of improvisational theater. This high-energy session is open to all experience levels and designed to boost communication skills, creative thinking, and collaboration in a fun, low-pressure environment. Whether you're a seasoned performer or just curious, come ready to say "yes, and…" to new ideas and unexpected discoveries.

Creative Problem Solving

What is creative genius? Does it strike like lightning or build like a storm? How can we understand our own creativity and channel it for the greater good? In this interactive, hands-on workshop, students will explore their personal creative process, learn the fundamentals of design theory, and collaborate to solve a complex, real-time challenge. This session is designed for honors students across all disciplines who are ready to think differently, connect with others, and push the boundaries of problem-solving.

Movement Exploration

Everyone is welcome. Participants will explore movement through a series of improvisational exercises and creative prompts focused on body awareness, breath and gesture—no previous dance experience is required!

Choreography

This dance workshop is an opportunity for students to share and shape existing work, as well as create new phrases in response to prompts and improvisational exercises. Students should bring 1-2 minutes of prepared choreography (solo or group work is fine), and will also work collaboratively to create a piece to perform as part of the closing Arts & Creativity Showcase.
