Past City as Text Explorations at the NCHC Annual Conference

Since 2012, City as Text (CAT) has been a signature part of the NCHC Annual Conference, allowing students and professionals alike to experience and learn about the conference location in a new way. Take a moment to dive into our archives of past explorations.

Attendees of the 2024 Conference had the opportunity to celebrate Kansas City and its unique neighborhoods and communities throughout the entire NCHC24 conference, culminating with citywide CAT explorations for all attendees on Saturday before the Conference Closing Celebration.

With NCHC21 taking place at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort—over 20 miles away from the downtown Orlando city center—the NCHC Place As Text Committee reimagined the NCHC exploratory education component of the conference into a presentation series. The series kicked off on Thursday, October 28th, with a keynote presentation by scientist and former NASA astronaut, Dr. Kathryn Thornton. The sessions that followed throughout the afternoon focused on experiential pedagogy and the importance of studying one's surroundings.
