Planned Gift Bequests |
Planned Giving BequestsLeaving a gift to the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) in your will is a powerful way to ensure that the work we do to support and advance honors education continues for generations to come. Your generosity will help provide resources, opportunities, and support to honors students and programs long into the future. Planned gifts—of any size—make a meaningful difference. They allow NCHC to continue developing innovative programs, supporting honors educators, and empowering students to reach their full potential. Plus, including NCHC in your estate plans is easier than you might think! How to Include NCHC in Your Estate Plan:You may include a bequest or gift to support the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Tax ID: 52-1188042), when preparing your will or trust, or by adding a codicil or amendment to your present will or trust. Bequests and gifts may include cash, securities, real estate, or other property. Bequests and gifts of all sizes are welcome, whether they are outright, contingent, or residual. Your bequest or gift should be directed to: National Collegiate Honors Council Your attorney may find the following language helpful when preparing your will or trust: Specific Bequest: "I give to the National Collegiate Honors Council, a Maryland nonprofit organization located in Lincoln, Nebraska, the sum of $____ (or description of property) to be used for the general support of NCHC or for the following specific purpose: ____." Residual Bequest: "I give to the National Collegiate Honors Council, a Maryland nonprofit organization located in Lincoln, Nebraska, ____% of the residue of my estate to be used for the general support of NCHC or for the following specific purpose: ____." Contingent Bequest: "In the event that ____ predeceases me, I give to the National Collegiate Honors Council, a Maryland nonprofit organization located in Lincoln, Nebraska, the sum of $____ (or, alternatively, ____% of the residue of my estate) to be used for the general support of NCHC or for the following specific purpose: ____." Naming NCHC as a Beneficiary: Many financial arrangements, such as retirement accounts, life insurance and investment accounts allow you to name the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) as a beneficiary of such funds upon your death. For retirement plans and individual retirement accounts (IRAs), naming NCHC allows the full value you designate as your donation to go directly the NCHC, as NCHC is not subject to income tax, unlike individual beneficiaries of IRAs. To name NCHC as a beneficiary, you should work with your financial advisor, banker, life insurance agent, retirement plan administrator or IRA custodian to obtain the necessary change of beneficiary forms. You may also want to consult with your estate planning advisor to make sure your charitable gift is coordinated with your estate plan. When naming NCHC as a beneficiary, please specify “the National Collegiate Honors Council”. Why Your Gift MattersBy including NCHC in your will, you’re helping to create a stronger future for honors education. Your gift will support honors students, provide professional development for honors educators, and fund new initiatives that elevate the honors experience nationwide. If you’d like to discuss your plans or learn more about how your gift can make an impact, please reach out to the NCHC Executive Director. We’d be honored to help you explore the possibilities. |
