The Inclusive Excellence Leadership Pathway is a multi-part professional development experience designed for honors educators, administrators, and staff committed to fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments. Spanning the 2025–2026 academic year, this cohort-based series combines virtual workshops, interactive institutes, and in-person collaboration to support professional growth, curriculum innovation, and meaningful leadership practices.

Challenge preconceptions as we explore narratives in Old Town, Route 66, and other diverse neighborhoods. Redefine your sense of place and incorporate insights into teaching. Learn to design integrative labs/seminars using Place as Text/City as Text™ pedagogy, fostering inquiry across courses.

The New Directors Institute (NDI) is designed to help beginning honors directors and deans. The institute will cover key topics of concern, spanning all aspects of honors programming at four-year as well as two-year institutions. The facilitators provide attendees with sets of skills and understanding required of new directors and deans. The participants will leave with a new network of honors colleagues as well as an understanding of key honors resources and organizations at the national and regional levels.

This immersive honors experience will prepare you to be successful in your new position as an honors administrator.

This workshop will provide participants with an overview of strategic planning; discuss the benefits and limitations of academic assessment; lead participants through the process of identifying, measuring, and mapping learning outcomes for their program; introduce participants to NCHC resources that can be used for benchmarking their program; and prepare participants for undertaking a self-study and external review.

This Place as Text Faculty Institute is an immersive professional development experience designed for faculty and staff who are interested in integrating the Place as Text pedagogy into curricular and co-curricular contexts.

The Place as Text Faculty Institute offers an immersive professional development experience for honors educators interested in bringing experiential, place-based learning into their programs. Through structured field inquiry in Philadelphia, participants will analyze neighborhoods, cultural landscapes, and public initiatives—including those tied to the U.S. Semiquincentennial—to uncover the social, historical, and cultural dynamics embedded in the city. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of City as Text® methodologies and practical strategies for applying this pedagogy within their own curricular and co-curricular contexts.
